That unless, your parents / partner are OK with you travelling spontaneously.
Recently I've stumbled up this blogpost (click) about how this guy manage to travel to more than 80 countries and build a successful corporate career, plus maintaining his own business at the same time. Sounds like missions impossible but this guy manage to draft out every single point on how he manage to juggle work and passion together, which as the result, got me convinced lol. Something which I'm aiming for.
The post is very long. However, I manage to list a few important points after took two days to finish reading them up:
1) Identify all your travel possible days and use it wisely. Even working remotely can be your travel possible day!
We have a total 104 weekends of a year. Combine with my current 14 days of annual leave plus 19 days of Malaysia's Public Holidays, that sums up to 138 Days, more than the intended 60 - 90 days for traveling!!
2) Perform well in your working place. It's much easier when you wish to negotiate your travel plan with your boss in the future.
Just started my new job so hopefully I don't screw up big times.
3) Increase your source of income: doing side business, sharing economy etc so you can have more money for traveling.
I suppose if I continue to blog then I might earn some side income? (Dream on)
If I diligently review the cafes at TripAdvisor I suppose it might help to shed some burden on my air ticket?
4) Budget your travel expense for those activity that you can save quite amount of money, for example: finding cheaper air ticket, accommodation, transportation, make use of airline / hotel promotions.
We've got Air Asia, Agooda & Airbnb babeh!! (Recent discover Hotels Combined recommended by Travel Blogger Tommy Ooi)
5) Prioritize which is important in your traveling. You travel because you want to see the world? Or just for relaxation? Family trip? From that, you can plan on your travel budget.
I travel to see the world! I really don't mind having a small tiny little place to stay (or even for free!), as long as it's safe and convenient.
Looks like if you've a heart for travel, nothing will gonna stop you.
What do you think? Do you feel that you can also travel extensively and perform well in your working place at the same time, just like this fellar?
*Update at 18 August 2015*
Just stumble up a great post about how to travel budget to Japan.
Now my heart is itchying to travel!
like your sharing. it's really useful tips. just bit tough for me , i wish i can save more time for travel too!! hehe
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words! ^^ I'm also working on it tho~
Deletehehe...nice to visit ur blog today again. have a great day to u ya!!
DeleteI always always like your cute comics!~ Thanks for all the travelling tips!
ReplyDeleteWith proper planning, it's always possible to work and travel and have a great time.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely can strike a balance between work and travelling if we plan well...but i dont dare to say the same for those who have family commitment hehe
ReplyDeletebe extra careful if you venture into traveling as a hobby dear. If you are 20 something focus in career and save up. Start traveling when you feel the stability in life unless you are born with rich parent or you work requires you to travel a lot. I started traveling as my hobby when i was late 30s. My advice...traveling as hobbies is most people's dreams if you start too young without financially stability it will be dangerous. Travel smart ya!
ReplyDeleteWhat a tips! I do love travelling but working and money might be the issue to stop me just by now. Need to plan more carefully if I want to see more side of the world. :)
ReplyDeleteNot everyone has the luxury to travel so frequently babe as there are factors like commitments and family. Even with savings it's also not a wise choice to travel now as out economy and currency is very weak. Can't get your money's worth.
ReplyDeleteYes.
ReplyDeleteDoing side business just so I could travel for free, at least 2 times a year.
And have to start spending on my means only too.
Hehehe.
So fired up and inspired now that I want to go holiday every weekend.
Thanks for sharing. But I'd prefer to be a working nomad :)
ReplyDeleteWell its possible if you work in a multi national corporation under international business development department. That job the KPI is based on how many trips you can make per year.
ReplyDeletewish I can travel that much... if there is anything in the world that makes me envious is seeing others get to travel.... I really wish I can do that but am tied down in many ways... family, financial, age, etc... but still I try to travel whenever and wherever I can...
ReplyDeleteIt is possible and of course, a corporate career which takes one to countries helps too! I have a friend who is also like this guy.
ReplyDeleteAh the balance of the work life and leisure. Love the post dear, it was very fun to read and I have to say, planning is definitely the key to working out the leave days :) Finance of course is another matter but it's always good to plan ahead ;)
ReplyDeleteAre you going to travel more than 80 countries? Need to plan a wise budget for each travel. Travel really take a lot of time and tiring but when we plan properly, it will minimize our time and money.
ReplyDeleteTravel is my only vice! I work to travel and I'm like you, where I stay isn't so important. I spend more on seeing places. And I also have timeshare which is like my travelling piggy bank
ReplyDeleteI love travel too! In fact doing business while travelling is easier today compared with last time.

ReplyDeleteyay for travellers. you are right, if there's a will, there will be a way. I am stuck in malaysia due to family, but once the kids are bigger, I will love to plan more travels to see the world.
ReplyDeleteWhat is life when you dont see the world? I travel during weekends too occasionally! haha. Enjoy your trip!
ReplyDeleteya it seems impossible but if you plan well, i think it can really be done, travelling the world while maintaining your job and life.
