1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice @ Jalan Gasing

by - 11/23/2015 01:32:00 am

Obviously, I was over the moon, or at cloud 9.

Special thanks to Ivy Kam from Food Malaysia for her kind invitation, I got the privilege to join this food tasting session. I consider this food review is a blessing for me as you can see from the above, I'm a chicken rice lover. XD

If you are a PJ resident, 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice is no strange to you. Led by the late Mr Yan Khoon Yin in 1976, the humble family operates a shop selling mainly steamed chicken served with bean sprouts (Nga Choi Gai) and Hor Fun noodles in Ipoh, Perak. The business since then flourished and the first "1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice" restaurant opened its door to customers in Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya in 1977.

Today, there are five 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice restaurants located at Jalan Gasing, Sri Petaling, Damansara Jaya, Sunway Pyramid shopping mall and Mid Valley Megamall.

1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice restaurant is famous for its authentic and delicious Ipoh specialties - steamed chicken and bean sprouts. Both versatile dishes can be eaten with rice, noodles or porridge. Customers can choose from ordinary white steamed chicken or organic kampung chicken.

Usually at lunch/dinner hour, it was full house.

Imported their ingredient all the way from Ipoh, Perak, 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice aims to nurture good memories by bringing Ipoh's cultural and food heritage to the world and serving people with Ipoh's most famous bean sprouts chicken. You don't have to drive all the way to Ipoh to enjoy a plate of chicken rice. =)

#1 Buttermilk Fried Fish Fillet - RM 18

Love how their buttermilk sauce is: sweet, salt, spicy, whatever you can find inside buttermilk. Perfect dish for your rice! Not to mention their fish is crispy, too!

#2 Signature Fried Roasted Pork - RM 15

The roasted pork were cooked with garlic, which explains its strong garlic + roasted flavour. Highly recommended to have it with your bowl of rice!

#3 Kampung Chicken - RM 68 (Whole), RM 38 (Half)

1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice's signature dish! Smooth, tender, well-cooked, what else I didn't mention? Oh ya, it was deliciousssss, as usual!

What's not having your chicken rice without a delicate sauce?

#4 Ipoh Bean Sprouts - RM 8 (Regular), RM 12 (Large)

I loveeeeeee their bean sprout! Taste so refreshing and a little crisp! I don't think anyone would say no to these ingredient which imported all the way from Ipoh!

#5 Stir Fried Bean Sprout with Salted Fish - RM15

If you think your bean sprout is plain, you can have it with salted fish and mushroom. Personally I prefer the plain type but some bloggers on that day do prefer this version.

#6 Stone Pot Stir Fried Lala with Superior Soup - RM 18

Mixture of sweet and spiciness sauce, makes you feel very appetizing!

#7 Homestyle Steamed Talapia - RM 28-38

I never knew ikan talapia can be tasted this good! It was cooked together with tomato sauce hence it taste sweet. Nevertheless, it hasn't had letting me down!

#8 Honey BBQ Pork - RM 12

If you love honey, this BBQ will never let you down, too!

#9 Roasted Pork - RM 12

That faaaaat layer! Crispy and tender, couldn't say NO to them!

#10 Signature Ipoh Hor Fun - RM 9.50

Love how smooth their Hor Fun noodles is! Reminds me of the one I'd in Ipoh.

#11 Curry Pork Skin - RM 6

A very good combi of pork skin and curry. It literally sucks up the curry so that we can taste the maximum of curry flavour with pork skins.

#12 Fish Balls ,1Pcs - RM 1.80

What is not to complete your 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice experience without having their fish ball? It tastes very bouncy and freshly.

#13 Pork Balls ,1Pcs - RM 1.30

But their pork ball version is even better!! This is my favourite dish right after their Kampung Chicken and Roasted Pork!

My overall experiences with 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice are satisfactory. Not only the staff were kind & patient enough to accommodate our requirement, despite it's their busy hour, the food does brings back to what I'd during my last Ipoh trip. Dare I say it's even better than the one I'd at one of their famous Chicken Rice in Ipoh!

To me, 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice is not just another place where you can hang out with your group of friends / family, it brings me fond memories where I always bring my ex-colleagues, especially for those who came down for business trip, to dine in here. That's because I knew they would like it here!
